Physical Therapist Helps Patients, Community

June 6, 2011 - OWASSO -- Lifelong Owasso resident Linzi Hightower loves her job. She enjoys helping people, and she is proud of the fact that Redbud Physical Therapy in Owasso is unique in what it offers its patients.
"Our pool is a huge plus," aid Hightower, physical therapist. "We're very individualized, we like to be really open and have a friendly vibe for anyone who comes in."
The pool is just one of many resources utilized by Hightower, who has been with Redbud since June 2010, and at the Owasso location since November.
Hightower also takes a lot of pride in Owasso and how "close-knit" of a community her hometown still is, despite the growth of the past decade. She said she can't imagine working anywhere else.
"I'm very happy here." said Hightower."Owasso may be getting bigger, but it still has that small town feel."
At Redbud they focus on mainly musculoskeletal issues, people with ailments such as lower back pain, ruptured ACLs, knee, or shoulder pain. For some people the pain leaves them emotionally exhausted.
For Hightower, this can mean working with a patient for weeks or months of recovery through non-weight bearing activities in their pool, exercises with equipment such as medicine balls, or simple body stretches.
"The best part of my job is getting to watch people return to doing the things they love" said Hightower. "To get someone to walk out of here saying, 'Thank you, I got my life back' is the most rewarding part of what I do."
Hightower's family has been in Owasso for over 40 years, with her father being a pastor at Rejoice Church and her mother working for Owasso Public Schools.
With parents in such deeply rooted positions in the community, Hightower joked, "I couldn't get away with anything growing up!"
It was through this upbringing and all the work in the community she did with her family that Hightower said made her, "very compassionate" for her patients and what she does.
That compassionate work for the community still lives on with what Linzi does through Redbud Physical Therapy. Redbud is visible at chamber meetings in Owasso, they had a booth at Trail Days, and were at the Owasso Health Fair.
"It's good to be involved" said Hightower.
